MK Orit Struk spoke to Arutz Sheva on Tuesday regarding a bill she has proposed that would extend employment rights for women to Judea and Samaria (Shomron).
Currently, the law protecting women's rights in the workplace does not extend to Israeli communities in those regions, she explained. “It was shocking to hear that the law did not apply in Judea and Samaria,” she said.
“Personally, I worked there for years, and I think I would have felt much less secure if I had known that the law did not protect me because I was working in Judea and Samaria,” she added.
“There is no reason that the law should not apply to women on the other side of the ‘green line’ too,” she said. Struk noted that her proposal would benefit both Jewish and Arab women working in Israeli communities.
It is important that all female MKs in particular show support for the measure, Struk said. “I’m glad that MK Meirav Michaeli signed, even though MK Shelly Yechimovich refused to sign,” she said.
“I see this law as a test of activity on behalf of women’s rights and human rights in general,” she added. “Are human rights more important than politics, or not?”
