United States President Barack Obama’s visit to Israel provides an opportunity to thank America, outgoing Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said Wednesday.

Israel owes America a debt of gratitude both for known assistance, including U.S. financial support for the Iron Dome project, and for “other things, that cannot be published,” Ayalon said.

Ayalon said he believes that Israelis “will welcome [Obama] with gratitude for the strategic relationship and the special ties that allow Israel’s continued deterrence in the region.”

He expressed hope that the trip will be a success. The goals, he said, are “understanding and complete agreement regarding further action against Iran, deepening the special relationship, and continuing American support for Israel’s security.”

Obama landed at Ben Gurion International Airport early Wednesday afternoon.
