Among the reforms demanded by Yesh Atid is a change in the method of government representation – with MKs responsible not just to a party list, but responsible for a specific area, much like members of the U.S. House of Representatives are elected according to a district system.

While the Knesset is still far from legislating that kind of regional representation, Yesh Atid is doing the next best thing. The party is assigning MKs responsibility for geographical areas of the country, with that MK “specializing” in issues that affects his or her “constituents.”

A message on Yesh Atid's web site Sunday said that “each town, city, local authority or regional authority will have a Knesset member to hear its issues, to take care of problems that develop with local or national government. The Knesset member will meet you, and will be your friend and representative in Israel's parliament.”

The site contains a list of party MKs and areas of responsibility. For example, Yesh Atid MK Meir Cohen, formerly mayor of Dimona, has been assigned to Lod. MK Ruth Calderon has been assigned the northern town of Nesher. In charge of all of Judea and Samaria, including Gush Etzion and Binyamin region, is Rabbi Shai Piron, the number two member of the Yesh Atid list.
