Most of us are involved in one way or another with technology.

We are plugged in, connected or juggling multiple devices as we try to keep up with shortening expected response times to emails and messages we receive from customers, bosses or members of our immediate family, friends and so on...

.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the frequency of electronic communications? Are you having trouble focusing on one task completely as you face constant technological interruptions?

Technology Addiction is a real issue for some people. Symptoms can include: headaches after spending long days staring at a computer screen, inability to relax, insomnia and even withdrawal symptoms when connectivity is broken.

Dr. Edward Hallowell and author of “Crazy Busy: Overbooked, Overstretched, and About to Snap!” says that "The great thing about modern life is you can do so much," "and the curse of modern life is you can do so much." He explains that the multitasking we are able to do with our devices can cause our brains to overheat, like a car engines. The result is we feel jittery and anxious when we are not attached.

Our brain needs time to recover. It is, also, not about sleeping well at night, but the break from technology should happen during the daytime hours and, if possible, with some time out in nature walking and breathing in some peace of mind.

This break is also beneficial on other levels because it allows for a rest period that enhances mood and gives our brain time to rest and consolidate what we have done prior to the break. This enhances our ability to retain and process information better.

A break from Technology creates a welcome opening from the nonstop hectic pace of modern society and a special opportunity to cultivate the spirit and strengthen family and community bonds.

So try and set these quiets moments regularly as we are all screaming for down time away from the bings and the rings of our inbox.

And remember you can choose your best life one step at a time.
