Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States, is convening an emergency summit meeting next Monday in Washington D.C., where over 400 Christian leaders will urge their state senators to vote against Barack Obama’s nomination of Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense.

According to Breitbart.com, the summit will feature Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX), CUFI founder and chairman Pastor John Hagee, CUFI board member and President of American Values Gary Bauer, and CUFI executive director David Brog, who will provide policy briefings.

On Tuesday, the staunchly pro-Israel CUFI leaders will follow up with all 100 senators to make known their opposition to Hagel, according to Breitbart.

CUFI first launched an action alert after hearing of Obama’s nomination.  The alert spurred over 21,000 organization members to email their senators urging them to vote against the nomination.

David Brog, CUFI executive director, affirmed CUFI’s position that not only is Hagel’s record indicative of his lack of support for Israel, but also his abominable record with regard to Iran.

“We're concerned not only that Hagel is a poor choice when it comes to Israel--frankly, we believe he's a poor choice when it comes to America and American security,” Brog said, as quoted by Breitbart. “The number one security threat to America today is an ascendant and potentially nuclear Iran. And Hagel has demonstrated a consistent pattern of opposing economic sanctions on Iran, opposing diplomatic pressure on Iran, opposing the further isolation of Hizbullah, opposing recognizing Iran's Revolutionary Guard as the terrorists they are.”
