MK Yoel Hasson of Tzipi Livni's Hatnua has just filed a motion with the Elections Committee to disqualify Bayit Yehudi candidate Jeremy Gimpel for an out-of-context remark regarding the Dome of the Rock.

In his motion to Elections Committee Chairman Judge Elyakim Rubinstein, Hasson claimed that "the delusional and moonstruck list" fielded by the Bayit Yehudi "aspires to set the Middle East on fire and start World War 3."

Channel 2's Friday night newscast, a special weekly edition which sums up the week's events, featured an attack on Gimpel by ultra-leftist pundit Amnon Abramovich. Abramovich showed viewers a Youtube video of Gimpel speaking before a Christian group and joking about the theoretical possibility that the Dome of the Rock would one day be blown up.

"The lecture was given to a Christian group as I was teaching about the Book of Ezra, a story that happened over 2,000 years ago," Gimpel told Arutz Sheva Saturday night. "In order to make the story more lively I made a few jokes, and you clearly hear the audience laughing. This is a cheap political attack and I would urge anyone to watch the video in its entirety and decide for yourselves."

Attacks by MK's on one another in the last days before the Israeli elections seem to be focused a good deal on the meteoric Bayit Yehudi. In fact, Naftali Bennet, Bayit Yehudi head, remarked that the party must be going in the right direction if every other party is so afraid that they are investing efforts to find ways to attack it. Bennett recently said that every Friday night, when he cannot respond because he is a Sabbath observer, the party is attacked in the Israeli media.
