Members of the Meretz party met Sunday with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Members of the party expressed support for the PA’s complaints against Israel.

“The Palestinian side has no partner for peace,” Meretz head MK Zehava Galon declared.

Galon and her fellow MKs sympathized with the PA’s anger against Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who recently sent a letter to the International Quartet calling for Abbas to be replaced. “General elections in the PA should be held, and a new, legitimate, hopefully realistic Palestinian leadership should be elected,” Lieberman argued.

PA elections are “an internal Palestinian matter,” Galon argued. She added, “Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu should have ousted Lieberman from his position.”

MK Otniel Schneller slammed the MKs. “Meretz became a party that adopted the Palestinian interest long ago,” he said.

“MK Galon and her friends from the radical left – in their aggressive, blind stance alongside the Palestinians – is intentionally ignoring the government’s efforts to promote real dialog,” he continued. “By doing so, they continue to hurt the chances for peace.”

MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) said Sunday that he has taken to calling MK Galon "Zehava Occupation," because of her frequent use of the term in speeches.
