Hackers took over the official Palestinian Authority news agency website on Sunday and published a report on a file allegedly leaked from the PA’s General Intelligence, Ma’an news agency reported.
The Wafa news site was briefly inaccessible on Sunday morning.
Hackers published a report allegedly based on a PA intelligence document revealing that the Ramallah-based government had founded a Geneva-based human rights organization as a front for intelligence work.
The report was previously published on In Light Press and Kofia Press websites, which were among several news sites blocked by PA Attorney General Ahmad al-Mughni earlier this year.
The PA’s official Voice of Palestine radio said groups working agsinst the PA were behind the attack on Wafa and noted that the hackers sought “to interrupt one of the official Palestinian sources of news for suspicious purposes.”
The attack coincided with Wafa’s preparations to mark its 40th anniversary.
