The Palestinian Authority death sentence for the Arab who sold a Hevron building to Jews is similar to the Nuremberg Laws under Hitler, Hevron Jewish community spokesmen wrote in a letter to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
“Is the Palestinian Authority a reincarnation of the Third Reich?” asked spokesmen David Wilder and Noam Arnon in the letter, published as an op-ed this week in Arutz Sheva.
The letter was also sent to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro, and to Israel’s President and Prime Minister as well as the leaders of the International Red Cross and the European Council of the European Union.
The Palestinian Authority, which is headed by Mahmoud Abbas, has sentenced to death former PA intelligence agent Mohammed Abu Shahala for the crime of selling the building to Jews. Shahala reportedly was tortured by Palestinian Authority officials.
Fifteen Jewish families moved into the three-story structure three weeks ago, but Defense Minister Ehud Barak evicted them on the grounds that their presence in the building, across from the Cave of Patriarchs, was a “provocation.”
Shahala’s life is in the hands of Abbas, whose signature on the death sentence would seal his fate. The Palestinian Authority operates under Jordanian law that requires the death penalty for anyone who sells property to Jews.
“The very fact that such a ‘law’ exists within the framework of the PA legal system points to a barbaric and perverse type of justice, reminiscent of practices implemented during the dark age,” wrote Wilder and Arnon.
They wrote Ban, “What would be the reaction to a law in the United States, England, France, or Switzerland, forbidding property sales to Jews? Actually, less than one hundred years ago, such acts were legislated and practiced, known as the infamous ‘Nuremberg laws.’
“On October 3, 1938 ,Nazi Germany, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, implemented a ‘Decree of the Confiscation of Jewish Property,' regulating the transfer of assets from Jews to non-Jewish Germans”
Arutz Shevareported Sunday that several Israeli Knesset Members and leaders in Judea and Samaria have called on the government to help save Shahala from death.
“Abu Shahala will be executed in Ramallah, barely 15 minutes' drive from the government's headquarters in Jerusalem,” said Danny Dayan, chairman of the Council of Communities in Judea and Samaria. “Israel cannot allow this travesty to take place.”
