Aftermath of Carmel fire Flash 90

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Minister of Interior Eli Yishai will take part in the memorial ceremony for 44 police officers and Israel Prisons Service cadets who were killed in the Carmel fire catastrophe, one year ago.

Netanyahu and Yishai's presence was requested by most of the bereaved families. However, some bereaved families have announced that they will boycott the ceremony, because those responsible for the tragedy have not had to pay for their misdeeds.

The memorial yahrzeit ceremony will be held at a bend of the road that leads to Beit Oren – the bend at which the fire trapped the bus carrying the cadets. A memorial monument for the 44 victims will be unveiled during the ceremony.

Minister Yishai had to leave the ceremony held 30 days after the catastrophe when he was verbally attacked by Danny Rosen, the life partner of Col. Ahuva Tomer, one of the police officers killed in the blaze. Yishai and Rosen met Sunday, and Rosen promised that he would not repeat his behavior.
