Three demonstrators were injured Thursday evening during a protest they staged in from of the home of Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz in Mevasseret Zion.

Among the injured was one of the protest organizers, Stav Shapir, who claims she was hit by a police cruiser. She did not require medical assistance. Another protester, however, was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem due to suffering several fractured ribs.

It is unclear whether he was injured by the cruiser or in the clashes with police that ensued during the demonstration.

The third protester suffered light injuries in the ensuing scuffle.

The protest began last night when dozens of people arrived at Steintiz's residence to demand he move to rebuild the public housing system and deal with inflated rents in Israel's cities.

During the demonstration, the group began to move toward the minister's house and clashed with police who moved to stop them.

Police said the spontaneous demonstration was staged without the requisite permits and was therefore illegal. The protesters' rowdy behavior violated public order, they added.

Police say they were unaware of the incident involving the cruiser, but will investigate the alleged incident. Shapir is considering filing a lawsuit against police.

However, It is unclear - in the absence of injury or proven intent on the part of police to strike her with the cruiser - what grounds Shapir would base her lawsuit on.
