Col. Eran Niv, Commander of the IDF’s officers’ training school, Bahad 1, has ordered a book by Rav Zalman Melamed of Beit El removed from the base’s study hall (beit midrash) library. The reason: the book, “Some Ask” (“Yesh Shoalim”) contains a determination that IDF soldiers should refuse any order to evict Jewish communities.
IDF Removes R. Melamed’s Book
Officers’ training base has Rabbi Zalman Melamed’s “Some Ask” book removed for determining that orders to evict Jews should be refused.

The decision is reported by daily newspaper Yisrael HaYom, which learned of the book’s contents and inquired with the IDF as to what it would do about it.
The book was purchased by donors who contributed it to the library.
Rav Melamed’s position depends among other things on the opinion of the late Rav Shlomo Goren, the IDF Chief Rabbi during the Six-Day War. who determined that evicting Jews from Judea and Samaria would constitute “a double aveirah," or transgression, because it would necessarily lead to Arabs’ taking over the evacuated space.
