At least nine people have been wounded in a mass shooting during the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois.

An eyewitness to the event said he heard 20-25 shots fired.

The incident took place a little after the parade began at 10 a.m. local time. Hundreds of people were seen fleeing the scene of the incident as police urged residents to stay away from the area.

No reports have been released about a suspect being taken into custody as of this moment.
