Israeli actress Gal Gadot feels "liberated" now that her time portraying the iconic superheroine Wonder Woman has come to an end.

In an interview with Total Film magazine, Gadot said that no longer being "tethered" to a single role frees her to pursue other roles and projects.

"To me, starting and developing stories that I'm passionate about is an incredible thing. The fact that I don't have to sit still at home and just wait for the next offer is something that makes me feel empowered. I enjoy doing it, it keeps me alive," the actress said.

She added: "I'm not only going to do my own projects, I'm going to work as an actress-for-hire still. But the fact that I can go ahead and tell the stories that I'm passionate about – from ideas that I conceived, or from ideas that I find fascinating from people that want to partner with us – it's an incredible thing."

Gadot appeared as Diana Prince, the secret identity of Wonder Woman in six movies, starting with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. Her first solo movie as the character, 2017's Wonder Woman, was critically praised and is considered one of the greatest movies of the DC Extended Universe. Her last appearance as the heroine is a cameo appearance in The Flash, which released this past weekend.

A third Wonder Woman movie had been planned following the release of Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020. However, this movie and many other DC projects were cancelled when Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was brought in to oversee the DC film universe. Many DC characters are being recast as a result, including Wonder Woman.

Gadot recently appeared in Fast X, reprising her role of Giselle from the Fast and the Furious series. Her next film is Heart of Stone, a spy thriller releasing in August 2023. She is also set to appear as the villainous queen in Disney's live-action remake of Snow White in 2024.
