The ISA and the Attorney General are expected to oppose the bill set forth by Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir to allow the use of administrative detentions as part of the war on violence in Arab communities in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation on Sunday.
Administrative arrest warrants allow the arrest of a person even if there are no legal proceedings against him. As part of the new bill, it was proposed to give the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police the authority to issue administrative orders within the territories of the State of Israel, similar to the authority of the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff to issue such orders, all for reasons of public security, "both against terrorism and against criminal organizations."
Minister Ben-Gvir commented, "The Attorney General's opposition to making administrative arrests against senior members of crime organizations in Arab communities is outrageous."
"Already a month ago, the police submitted a request for administrative arrests against a number of senior officials in large criminal organizations, some of whom were themselves involved in murder incidents, which could have been prevented if the Attorney General had not interfered. The Attorney General approves of administrative arrests for boys suspected of disorderly conduct in Huwara. Her opposition to a similar order against the heads of a mafia with blood on their hands is irresponsible."
