Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas' anti-Semitic outburst Sunday is part of a strategy to capitalize on left liberal opposition to US President Donald Trump, says Middle East expert Dr. Ephraim Herrera.
"What Mahmoud Abbas has done is try to have the left-wing in Europe and the liberals in the United States join him because he knows that they hate Trump," Dr. Herrera said.
"Trump's policy towards political Islam and militant Islam is a deep change compared to the policy of Obama. Abu Mazen (Abbas) understands this," he added.
He said that Abbas' anti-Semitism at the opening of a two-day meeting of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Central Council Sunday is "consistent" with his decades of anti-Semitism.
"He said, for example, in his PHD dissertation, that the Zionists joined the Nazi regime and they helped the Nazi regime kill Jews in order to make the West feel guilty and then to give a state to the Jews. He is basically an anti-Semitic man."
