The Treasury announced Sunday the opening of registration for a huge lottery in which 12,000 additional housing units will be sold at a special "Buyer's Price."

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon who is initiating the program said that it will be the answer to those who 'wish to dispel the hopes of young couples to attain their own houses.'

However not everybody was pleased with the minister's declaration. MK Yaakov Asher(UTJ) claimed that out of 12,000 units publicized by the Treasury, just 68 are designated for the haredi public.

"I share your joy, the joy of the general public wishing to purchase an apartment, but unfortunately just 68(!) of the apartments advertised in Beit Shemesh will be a solution to the haredi housing shortage, " MK Asher said in a letter to the Finance Minister.

Asher said that the haredi population is 'extremely disappointed' with the choice of apartments in the lottery which hardly included haredi centers.

"There are 2,100 apartments in Rishon Letzion, 1,500 in Modi'in and another 1,000 in Or Yehuda as well as other towns as well, but for the haredi public just 68 apartments were allocated, in Beit Shemesh which has huge land reserves, and without any other solutions being provided in other cities for the haredi public."
