President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior aide Jared Kushner joined US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman in a condolence call with the family of murdered Border Police officer Sergeant Major Hadas Malka Wednesday morning.
Malka was murdered by Arab terrorists in an attack outside of the Old City of Jerusalem Friday evening.
Kushner arrived in Israel Wednesday morning for a series of meetings intended to lay the foundation for a restart of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
After landing in Israel, Kushner proceeded directly to the Malka family’s home in Ezer, near the coastal city of Ashdod, accompanied by Ambassador Friedman.
Earlier this week, special White House envoy Jason Greenblatt, who arrived on Monday for talks with Israeli and Palestinian Authority leaders, visited with the Malka family to pay his respects.
"Today I paid a shiva call to family of Hadas Malka,” Greenblatt tweeted after the visit. “She was murdered by terrorists. This violence is intolerable!"
Both Kushner and Greenblatt are expected to push for commitments from both sides to attend a US-hosted Mideast peace summit tentatively slated for September.
At the summit, US officials hope both sides will declare their return to the negotiation table, for the first talks towards a final status agreement since 2014.
