Yeshiva director arrested in teen's drowning

The director of a Jerusalem yeshiva has been arrested after a 15-year-old student at the yeshiva drowned during a hike in the Judean Desert Monday morning. The director was arrested on suspicion of causing death through negligence.

The boy, Shimon Heller, was from the 'Shuvu Banim' branch of the Breslov hasidic sect.

Medical teams from Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah were called to the scene and resuscitated the boy after he fell into the Prat River (Wadi Qelt) He was transported via helicopter to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem in critical condition,

At the hospital, the boy was declared dead.

MDA paramedic Elon Lubiner said: "We reached the stream, went into the water and searched for the boy for a few minutes. Once we located him, we removed him from the water when he was unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing after spending long minutes underwater."
