Former President Donald Trump’s private jet was reportedly his pride and joy, used in countless photos, campaign rallies and videos to demonstrate his wealth, including clips of him eating fast food meals on a plate with knife and fork. Today, the plane sits on a runway, essentially mothballed awaiting a series of expensive repairs.

According to a CNN report, the Boeing 757, which includes cream-leather seats, bathrooms with gold trim and seat buckles plated in 24-karat gold, lives on an airport tarmac in Orange County, New York, an hour north of Manhattan.

One of the plane’s engines needs new parts. The other engine sits in a plastic covering. The dollar figure associated with the needed repairs is reportedly in the six-figures. The sum may be an expense Trump does not want to currently deal with. COVID has dealt a blow to the hospitality industry, where most of Trump’s current businesses make their money.

"Flying that thing was so expensive,” a former senior official told CNN. "I don't think people realized that just to get it up in the air and make one stop was literally tens of thousands of dollars."

The Boeing 757 seats about 228 passengers. Trump had his 757 remodelled to seat 43 people, adding a master bedroom, guest suite, dining room, VIP lounge and galley. The Trump name is emblazoned across the front section of the plane, which previously belonged to late Microsoft co-founded Paul Allen.

Bloomberg news reported last week that Trump’s net worth fell by $700 million from $3 billion to $2.3 billion from the beginning of 2016 until now.

Since the presidential inauguration, Trump has been travelling in his fleet of smaller corporate jets.
