The Likud on Saturday night blasted the Yamina party for what it perceived as it referring to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as “treif” (ie. a non-kosher animal) in its statement regarding a plan that would see MK Moshe Ya’alon temporarily serving as Prime Minister

“We regret and are stunned by Bennett’s use of the word ‘treif’ to describe the Prime Minister, after he supported Lapid for Prime Minister. We suggest to Bennett and Smotrich and the entire opposition not to focus on division and on making political capital on the back of the disease, but rather on the unity of the people and to congratulate the historic achievement that Prime Minister Netanyahu is leading," said the Likud.

The Likud’s ire was raised by Yamina’s response to a Friday evening report by Channel 12 News of a plan that is in place that would see MK Moshe Ya’alon becoming Prime Minister.

According to the report, the plan would be a constructive vote of non-confidence in the current government and having it be replaced by a government headed by Ya'alon - for a limited period.

According to the report, Ya'alon has agreed to accept the predominantly Arab Joint List party's support in the constructive vote of non-confidence, and Blue and White's condition is that the former Chief of Staff will not run for prime minister if there is an election. Yesh Atid-Telem chairman Yair Lapid, who sees himself as a candidate for Prime Minister, has yet to respond to the proposal.

Channel 12 noted that the surprising move is in still in its infancy and Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett appears to be the one who can tip the scales regarding its implementation.

Yamina said in response on Saturday night, “We will not be party to a putsch backed by Heba Yazbak or to other dark political tricks. You do not replace a treif animal with a carcass. We must go to elections and replace the failing Netanyahu-Gantz government with a new, broad and vigorous government headed by Naftali Bennett that will take care of the coronavirus, the economy and the reconciliation of the divisions among the people."

MK Ayelet Shaked added, "No thanks, friends. We are not in the business of a government with Yazbak & co. It will not happen. The government has failed to deal with coronavirus and the economic crisis. The solution is elections and the establishment of a functioning government, which will work for the public, led by Naftali Bennett."
