Coalition chairman MK Miki Zohar (Likud) on Wednesday blamed President Reuven Rivlin of trying to influence Knesset members to oppose the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry committee to probe the judges of the Supreme Court.

"He tried to do everything possible to thwart this proposal. He did it on purpose to hurt the Prime Minister," Zohar claimed in an interview on Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio).

A spokesperson for the Presidential Residence responded to the claim and rejected it. "MK Miki Zohar's remarks are blatant lies and that he immediately apologize and retract them. We will stress: The President had nothing to do with the Knesset's activities regarding a parliamentary committee of inquiry into the judges."

"It is so sad that an elected official deals with constructive and statesmanlike criticism in such a lowly manner. MK Zohar should deal with the public's needs at this difficult time rather than disseminate his lies over the airwaves," the statement added.
