Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage Minister Rabbi Rafi Peretz said on Sunday that he will support the application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, even if it requires recognition of a future Palestinian state.

"We will strengthen Netanyahu so he applies sovereignty, we will fight a Palestinian state, but we will not give up on sovereignty because of that," Peretz said at an official launch of a book written by Rabbi Ariel Bareli, the Rabbi of Beit El.

The event was also attended by OU Israel Executive Director Rabbi Avi Berman and the head of the Beit El council, Shai Alon.

Earlier on Sunday, the Shomron Regional Council released a video protesting the demand for recognition of a Palestinian state under US President Donald Trump's “Deal of the Century”.

The video points out that former Prime Ministers Menachem Begin, Levi Eshkol and David Ben Gurion also acted without the approval of the US administration - Begin when he applied Israeli law over the Golan Heights, Eshkol when he applied sovereignty over liberated Jerusalem and Ben Gurion when he applied sovereignty over western Jerusalem.

The video responds to one of the main arguments of those who support the Trump plan and who claim that the Palestinians will never meet the demands presented in the Deal of the Century.
