Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi on Thursday appointed Alon Ushpiz as the Director-General of the Foreign Ministry.
The appointment of Ushpiz, a senior and experienced diplomat, will take effect after it is approved by the government.
Ushpiz will replace current Director-General Yuval Rotem, who asked Minister Ashkenazi to leave the post after a lengthy term in office.
Foreign Minister Ashkenazi thanked Rotem for his many years of service in the Foreign Ministry and for his many accomplishments and achievements in his four years as Director-General of the Ministry during a challenging period and wished him success down the road.
Ushpiz, who is currently the head of the ministry's diplomatic-strategic division, has held a long line of senior positions at the Foreign Minister, including the Israeli ambassador to India, head of the Coordination Division and a Congress delegate at the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
