An earthquake occurred in the Red Sea Tuesday, over a hundred miles southwest of Eilat.

The earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale and took place 138 miles southwest of Eilat.

Earthquakes are common along the Syrian-African Rift and occur at various intensities every year. About a month ago, two small tremors occurred within one hour in northern Israel.

The first quake, and the strongest of the two, occurred about 14 miles northeast of the city of Beit Shean, and was measured 3.2 on the Richter Scale. The second quake measured a magnitude 2.7.
