The Lubavitcher Rebbe
The Lubavitcher RebbeINN:MS

I’m confident that all will be well. I pray that the chaotic behavior displayed by some will become experience of the past and lessons for the present and future.

We need time to reflect on why the United States is having so much conflict and misery.

The great rabbi Moshe Maimonides, the Rambam, in his Book of Commandments-Sefer Mishnah Torah, taught us a monumental lesson:

It is forbidden to observe bad events and say “Things Happen”. It evinces utmost cruelty and is entirely un-Godly to make such a statement. It shows gross insensitivity to G-d’s world, His creation.

One thing we can all agree on is that we cannot let society destroy itself.

I believe that we must try to influence the citizens of the world, descendants of Adam and Noah, to keep the seven G-d given commandments stated in the Bible.

Maimonides teaches these seven Noahide’s commandments in Book Fourteen: Judges, Chapter nine:

The first six precepts were given to Adam, the First Man in Creation.

They are the prohibitions of Idolatry, Blasphemy, Murder, Adultery and Incest, Theft, and the commandment to establish Courts of Justice.

The seventh additional commandment is the prohibition of behaving with cruelty to animals, as by eating a limb from a living animal. This commandment was given to Noah, the Father of the World's Humankind.

To Abraham, the first Jew, was added the commandment of circumcision.

Lastly, the entire Torah, the book of deeds and Divine commandments was handed to the Jewish People on Mount Sinai, creating the Jewish nation.

When I was a child I went to a private Jewish School. There I was taught the history of the Jewish people. We were taught the customs and commandments from Cradle to Grave .

One day I got up and asked my teacher a bunch of questions:

  • Is G-d Jewish?
  • How does He look l
  • What does it in mean when the Bible says that we are created in G-d’s image?
  • What was the color of the first man?
  • Are there other religions that believe in G-d?
  • Was Noah Jewish?
  • What about Adam?

To my dismay I was sent to the principal and given a speech on faith while he completely ignored my questions.

Years went by and I found answers and realized that we human beings have more in common then I had first thought.

When the Chabad Jewish community area of Crown Heights, Brooklyn New York was the victim of a race riot from August 19 to 21, 1991, the following happened:

The New York Mayor then, Mr. David Dinkins, came to the area to quell the racist acts of random violence and stopped in to see the Chabad leadership. There he met the the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson. After a few words the Rebbe said to the New York Mayor:

“We were all created by the same G-d, for the same purpose!”

Below is the video clip of that meeting.

If we could just remember that, how wonderful our world would be.
