Israeli actress Gal Gadot, most famous for her role as Wonder Woman, is playing the role of one of the most famous Righteous Among the Nations in a new movie about life in the Warsaw ghetto.

Gadot announced that she and her husband, Yaron Versano, who recently founded Pilot Wave Productions, are producing a new movie about the life of Irena Sandler, a Pole who saved the lives of thousands of Jewish children during the Holocaust.

Sandler was a Polish Catholic nurse who took advantage of her position to enter the Warsaw ghetto and smuggle thousands of Jewish children out of the ghetto with fake documents, ultimately saving the lives of 2,500 Jewish children. She was arrested and tortured by the Gestapo but she refused to give them the names of the children she saved.

Sandler was awarded the title of "Righteous Among the Nations" and honored by the State of Israel for her actions. She passed away in 2008 in Poland at the age of 98.

Gadot and her husband are partnering with Warner Bros. to produce the movie, which will tell the story of Sandler's life and Jewish life in the Warsaw ghetto under the Nazi occupation.

Gadot wrote on Twitter: "Pilot Wave is taking off! I’m so excited this is finally out. Yaron Varsano and I have been working on this for quite some time and I just CAN'T wait to bring to life all the amazing stories we're working on with all of our wonderfully talented partners."
