Man killed in truck explosion in central Israel

Explosion occurs in truck on Route 5 near Rosh Ha'ayin. Driver thrown from vehicle, medics confirm his death. Police investigating.

An explosion occurred Wednesday evening in a truck that was traveling on Route 5 west, near the Kfar Kassem interchange.

According to eyewitness reports, the truck driver was thrown from the vehicle after the explosion.

Medics who arrived at the scene of the blast were forced to determine his death.

Police arrived and opened an investigation into the circumstances of the explosion.

MDA medic Eyal Atia said, "When I arrived, I saw a truck in a ditch by the side of the road. On the road lay an unconscious man, without a pulse and not breathing, with very severe systemic injury. He was without vital signs and we had to determine his death at the scene."
