The police chief in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, held a press conference on Sunday following the killing of Dr. Fadi al-Batash, a Hamas engineer killed in Malaysia.

"The suspect is apparently a European who has contacts with a foreign intelligence agency," he said, adding that the incident was still under investigation. "This is an international issue, the motive is still being investigated."

Channel 2 quoted the University in Kuala Lumpur this morning as writing that Dr. al-Batash had completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering at a university in Gaza City and received his doctorate from Malaya University in Malaysia.

During his stay in Malaysia, al-Batash spent most of his time lecturing at a private university. He also served as an imam in a mosque that was reportedly shot at from the outside, and was also active in the Malaysian charity My Care, which also operates among Arabs in the Gaza Strip and Judea and Samaria.

According to the intelligence blog Intelli Times, al-Batash was linked to Hamas' weapons development network in Gaza and worked in electrical engineering.
