An Arab man was moderately wounded Wednesday by police gunfire while driving a stolen vehicle near the entrance to Jericho.

The police had deployed a checkpoint in the area following reports of three vehicles stolen from the oasis by the Dead Sea.

The police said that the officers opened a suspect detention procedure and signaled the vehicle to stop, but the driver did not heed their warnings and attempted to run over them. The police subsequently shot him. He was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

Yesterday, an Israeli-Arab was shot after he rammed another stolen vehicle into an empty bus stop near Ariel. He was being pursued in his stolen car.

An IDF force in the area shot him when he tried to escape from the scene. He was evacuated to medical treatment, but his death was set shortly thereafter.
