Pavel Filip, the Prime Minister of Moldova, on Sunday visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

The visit was part of Filip's trip to Israel, and he was accompanied by a convoy of security guards, Moldovan and Israeli intelligence officials, and a delegation of government officials and other public figures.

At the Western Wall, Filip met with Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zalmanov, the grandson of the Chabad emissary and Chief Rabbi of Moldova, Rabbi Zalman Hacohen Abelski. The two held a detailed conversation about the Jewish community and the Chief Rabbinate of Moldova.

The prime minister was very moved during his visit as he recited a prayer in front of the Western Wall. He then placed a note between its stones.

Prime Minister Filip, during his conversation with Rabbi Zalmanov, praised the great work of Rabbi Abelsky, who for over 25 years has established and rehabilitated new Jewish communities throughout Moldova, in addition to supporting and assisting all citizens of the country wherever they may be.

Filip told Rabbi Zalmanov that his support for the Jewish community and the Chief Rabbinate would continue through fruitful cooperation for the benefit of the Jews of Moldova in the country and throughout the world.
