Israel has placed an Iron Dome air defense system in Washington, but not to guard against rockets shot at the US - rather, to present the system to American leadership within the framework of the AUSA weapons exhibition taking place in the capital.

According to Yediot Ahronot, the US Department of Defense is considering buying an Iron Dome defense system, which is manufactured by the Israeli defense technology company Rafael, to protect US forces stationed in Europe and other locations around the world.

Today, the US army does not have such a system for shooting down rockets, planes, helicopters, or unmanned aircraft, and is thus interested in the possibility of obtaining an Iron Dome system, which was developed in Israel with US cooperation.

According to the report, about a year ago the US conducted a successful test of Iron Dome’s interceptor missile, called Tamir, in which the interceptor was launched from a US military multi-mission launcher and successfully intercepted a target drone.

Recently, the US Department of Defense announced that it would begin the process of purchasing Israeli "Windbreaker" armor to protect its Abrams tank crews. The Windbreaker, which was also developed by Rafael, proved itself in operational service on the IDF’s Merkava Mark IV tanks.
