Volunteer rescue workers from Israel Police on Wednesday successfully extracted an extended family of 18 holidaying in the Amud Wadi, a rushing stream in northern Israel.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the Nature Authority notified rescue workers about a family consisting of parents and 16 children which had lost their way in the stream.

As darkness fell, the rescue workers found the family and helped them out of the stream, providing them with flashlights, and water. The rescuers themselves carried the youngest children, guiding the family to safety.

No one was hurt.

Immediately afterwards, the rescue workers were called to search for a 13-year-old boy and a 25-year-old man who were hiking on Mount Meron.

Summer vacation, especially now that yeshivas are closed for several weeks, is an accident-prone period. Israel Police request all hikers follow the safety rules. These rules include planning trips in accordance with the weather and participants' physical abilities; planning the hike so it will be completed before sunset; bringing a map, flashlights and batteries, cell phones, mobile chargers, and most crucial, wearing hats and bringing an adequate quantity of water.

In addition, hikers should inform a friend of the expected start and end times of their hike, pay attention to signs, and stick to the marked paths only.
