A 78-year-old pedestrian was killed in Petah Tikva on Friday morning after an "Afikim" bus slammed into him as he crossed the street.

The pedestrian was walking in the crosswalk when he was hit, and Israel Police are investigating if the bus driver failed to give the pedestrian right of way.

The incident occurred on Petah Tikva's Bar Kokhba Street. Any eyewitnesses should dial 100 for the police hotline.

Initial investigations show the driver left the city's Central Bus Station and turned onto Bar Kokhba Street, hitting the pedestrian hard. Magen David Adom paramedics were called to the scene and transferred the victim to the city's Beilinson Hospital with severe injuries.

Doctors were later forced to declare his death.

The bus driver was detained for interrogation.

Earlier on Friday, a 60-year-old man was severely injured by a car in neighboring Ramat Gan. MDA transferrred him to Tel Hashomer Hospital with injuries to multiple bodily systems.

In late July, a mother and her infant daughter were killed in a car crash near Be'er Sheva, and earlier that month, a father and his six-year-old daughter were killed in Israel's north.
