An elderly woman was followed home after walking her dog on her mobile scooter and viciously attacked, Metro News reported.

Catherine Smith, 82, was walking her dog near her South London apartment, when she spotted a woman sitting on a wall, who inquired where "Tracy" was, as well as asking for money. Smith answered negative to both questions, and entered her house, shutting the door.

The woman then knocked on the door, asking to use the restrooms. After Smith refused, she forced open the door, causing Smith to hit her head on the floor, and attempted to strangle her with her dog's leash. After the assailant ran off, Smith called for help, and was found by neighbors, who contacted the police.

Smith was rushed to the hospital, and was treated for her injuries.

Police are now trying to find Smith's attacker, who is described as a white woman with black hair.

Detective Vicky Vincent, from Lambeth CID, said: "This was a vicious, unprovoked attack on an elderly, vulnerable woman’s own doorstep. The attack has left her very distressed.

"We believe the suspect spotted Catherine in Palace Road Nature Gardens and, for unknown reasons, decided to follow her home, harass her, and then brutally assault her.

"We would encourage anyone with information or any witnesses to contact us as a matter of urgency so we can bring the person responsible for this heinous crime to justice."
