Police in a Swiss town on the border with Germany have launched a manhunt for a suspect in a chainsaw rampage Monday morning.

Authorities say a man carrying a chainsaw attacked and injured at least five people in the town of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland at approximately 10:40 a.m. local time.

Witnesses say the suspect had been spotted walking down a street in the old city of Schaffhausen while carrying the chainsaw, and that shoppers in local stores had been advised to leave the area. The suspect is still at large.

According to Swiss Info, five victims of the attacker have been identified thus far, including two who are reportedly in serious condition.

Police officers and helicopter units are now searching the area for the suspect.
