The presumed death toll in last week's Grenfell Tower fire in London has risen to 79, and could rise even further, London Police said.

However, only five bodies have been positively identified, Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy told the Telegraph.

According to Cundy, the "awful reality" is that many of the bodies of the victims will never be positively identified.

“On Saturday I went in myself and went to the top floor,” he said. “And it is incredibly hard to describe the devastation in some parts of that building.”

Authorities said that the death toll could continue to climb as search operations are still ongoing.
