A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed on Wednesday evening by a car driving on Route 22 towards Haifa.

Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah paramedics who arrived at the scene were forced to declare his death.

MDA paramedic Itai Mazor said, "We saw a 50-year-old man lying unconscious at the side of the road. He was not breathing and had no heartbeat."

"We attempted to administer medical aid, but he had suffered severe injuries and showed no signs of life. Within a short time, we were forced to declare his death."

The police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, a 40-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car on Route 65.

Four others were lightly injured and taken to Afula's Haemek Hospital.

In Yeruham, a 6-year-old boy was moderately injured by a car.

Magen David Adom transferred the child victim to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

In 2016, 372 Israelis were killed in road accidents - representing the third in year in a row in which the number of casualties has increased instead of decreasing.
