The election of Ismail Haniyeh as Hamas' new leader has brought congratulations from Hamas terrorists of all levels.

Among those congratulating Haniyeh on his appointment is former Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, who publicized a video of himself congratulating Haniyeh and promising that "he and his brothers" are Haniyeh's dedicated soldiers.

In his video, Mashaal also emphasized that Haniyeh was chosen democratically and after several open discussions.

Previously, Mashaal believed Mussa Abu Marzuk - who like Mashaal, does not reside in Gaza - was the better candidate for Hamas leadership.

Haniyeh's election returns power to Gaza itself, and for the first time since 2004 Hamas officials are no longer dependent on "external" decision makers.
