This year, in addition to highlighting the newest archaeological discoveries in the City of David and ancient Jerusalem, the conference will focus on the attempt of various entities to erase ancient Jerusalem from Jewish history.

Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dore Gold, will talk about UNESCO’s treatment of the subject and its consequences on archaeological research in the State of Israel. Zachi Dvira will present archaeological finds that were uncovered during the sifting of archaeological rubble from the Temple Mount , which confirm the existence of the Temple during the First and Second periods.

Professor David Jacobson, who is flying in specially from England, will represent the Palestine Exploration Fund (PEF), which is celebrating 150 years since its inception, and will share rare photographs from the days of the first researchers of Jerusalem.

Discussing one of the newest archaeological finds, Dr. Doron Ben-Ami, Central Region Archaeologist of the Israel Antiquities Authority, will describe the surprising discovery of the Chakra fortress in the Givati Parking Lot Excavation. The archaeologist Nahshon Zanton of the Israel Antiquities Authority will provide a fresh look at the lower city of Jerusalem from the Second Temple period in light of his excavation in the Tyropoeon Valley, located in the City of David.
