Prison administrators reported Wednesday that Yishai Schlissel, who was convicted earlier this year over the murder of a teenage girl at the 2015 Jerusalem gay pride parade, was hospitalized after being assaulted by two fellow inmates at the Ayalon prison in Ramla.

According to the report, Schlissel, who is currently service a life sentence plus 31 years for one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder, was attacked in the prison courtyard by two inmates during an argument.

The two reportedly beat Schlissel while other inmates watched, causing him light head injuries.

Schlissel was later transferred to the Assaf HaRofe Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident.

Schlissel was twice convicted of stabbing attacks at the Jerusalem gay pride parade. In 2005, Schlissel wounded three parade goers.

After his 12-year sentence was reduced to 10, Schlissel was freed in 2015. Several weeks after his release, Schlissel again attacked the annual parade, killing 16-year old Shira Banki and wounding five others.
