Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning, when a six-year-old boy fell from the balcony of his home on 101 Street in Ramat Gan in the coastal region.

The child was seriously wounded by the fall, and after receiving initial medical treatment at the scene he was evacuated to Tel Hashomer Hospital suffering from a serious blow to the head, having been put on artificial respiration and placed under a medically induced coma.

The cause of his fall remains unclear and the circumstances are being investigated, reports Channel 2.

According to Magen David Adom (MDA) members who provided treatment to the child, he fell from a height of two storeys.

Shlomo Rana, an on-call senior medic with MDA's motorcycle unit who arrived at the scene, said, "in the courtyard a six-year-old child was lying in a fuzzy state of consciousness after falling from a height, we provided him medical treatment and evacuated him."

United Hatzalah medics also arrived at the scene to treat the child. One of the United Hatzalah volunteers, Effi Fisher, said, "when I arrived at the scene I came across a child suffering from damage to multiple bodily systems after falling from the balcony of his home into the courtyard.

"Due to the serious nature of the injury the child suffered from he was put to sleep and on artificial respiration. The circumstances and the nature of the incident are being checked," said Fisher.

According to statistics from the Beterem organization for child safety two children have died from falls so far in 2016, after eight children died of falls in 2015.

Since 2008 a full 54 children have died in Israel due to falling from a height, with over half of the victims being aged zero to four. A full 65% of the incidents took place at home.
