Mimouna celebrations Saturday night may extend beyond the normative 11:00 pm noise limit, Walla! News reports Wednesday, following an amendment making an exception for specific days in the calendar year.

Likud MK Mickey Zohar initiated the amendment, after many Israelis turned to him complaining that the time limit had cut their celebrations short.

The amendment passed a preliminary reading in the Knesset with 51 MKs from across the political spectrum supporting; the amendment was then picked up by Environmental Minister Avi Gabai (Kulanu).

Zohar himself noted in the explanatory note to the bill that Mimouna, while being a holiday celebrating the end of Passover by the Jews of North Africa and Morocco, has now become a universal holiday in Israel.

Lag Ba'omer will also be included in the exemption.
