Four people were wounded on Saturday in a crash between a police patrol car and a civilian vehicle, as the police car was in hot pursuit of a suspicious vehicle.

The chase began in Givat Shmuel near Tel Aviv, where the police officers in their car noticed a suspicious vehicle. They called for it to stop, but it ignored their calls and drove off.

While pursuing the car they called on the driver to stop numerous times. The chase reached Highway 4, but near Em Hamoshavot Junction the suspicious car began driving against the stream of oncoming traffic, at which point the police vehicle crashed into a car that was not involved in the incident.

Due to the crash, a female passenger in the car was seriously wounded. She was treated by Magen David Adom (MDA) medics before being evacuated to nearby Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, suffering a wound to her head while on artificial respiration and put to sleep with anesthetics.

A 55-year-old man who was in the car with her suffered moderate injuries to his limbs. The two police officers in the car were also injured, one moderately and the other lightly.

Later on the driver of the fugitive car, a 52-year-old resident of the Arab city of Bethlehem, turned himself in to the police. He was arrested and taken in for investigation.
