Opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog (Zionist Union) is currently speaking at the AIPAC Policy Conference.

"I believe that the international community never takes, in a serious manner, the security concerns of Israel," he said, explaining that terror doesn't change, whether it's in Otniel, Jerusalem or Tel Aviv.

Speaking of the relationship between the US and Israel, he argued against those who feel the US is treating Israel unfairly: "I think that Israelis need to realize, time and again... that this relationship is something that supersedes internal political games and yawning and crying by all sorts of political parties and partners."

As a closing remark, MK Herzog expressed his concern over Israel's ability to maintain both its Jewish and its democratic characteristics. "Are we moving into a downturn because we will be losing in the end... the unique Jewish democratic character of the state? I don't want to be in any situation where I have to decide between being Jewish and democratic."
