An apparent stabbing attempt took place on Thursday afternoon, at the Achim Yisrael Mall in the Talpiot industrial area in the southeast of Jerusalem. It remains unclear if the assault was criminal or terrorist in nature, although police seem to indicate it was criminal.

Magen David Adom (MDA) medical forces provided treatment to one 25-year-old victim who was lightly to moderately wounded in the incident, and evacuated him to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in the capital.

According to the hospital the victim suffered numerous wounds to the face and head, but was conscious and in stable condition.

Several victims suffering from shock were also treated at the site.

The assailant fled the scene, and reportedly was bearded and wearing a black shirt with white stripes.

Jerusalem district police released a statement saying, "from an initial investigation of the incident it becomes clear a civilian who stepped out of a store adjacent to Achim Yisrael Mall was wounded."

"He was evacuated by MDA to (Hadassah) Ein Kerem. Forces are conducting searches in the area. All angles of investigation are being checked at this stage."

The stabbing comes on the heels of a terror attack near Ariel in Samaria earlier on Thursday, in which a female soldier was stabbed by two Arab terrorists and moderately to seriously wounded.

The terrorists stabbed the soldier in the throat near a bus stop at the entrance to Ariel, before being shot and killed by security forces.
