A 70-year-old woman was found on Monday morning collapsed in a deep puddle of mud at the southern exit of Kiryat Gat, located to the east of Ashkelon. The region has been showered in rains since last Friday.

Magen David Adom (MDA) medics evacuated the woman to the Barzilai Hospital in nearby Ashkelon. She was defined as being in moderate condition, and suffering from hypothermia.

Senior MDA medic Lior Dohan arrived on the scene, and later described the mud puddle as being "a deep ditch at the side of the road. A civilian who passed by in his car identified a woman lying in a deep mud puddle."

"In parallel to reporting to the MDA call center at the 101 emergency hotline, he went to the site and began helping the woman. On our way to the site we prepared the ambulance to take in the injured woman by heating it in advance," he added.

"Aided by a police force that passed by we rescued the woman who was fully conscious and suffering from hypothermia, and we evacuated her in moderate condition to Barzilai Hospital."

In addition a 79-year-old man was found on Monday morning collapsed in a water puddle adjacent to Habikurim Street in Kiryat Ata, north of Haifa.

MDA medics gave him medical treatment and evacuated him to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. He too was defined as being in moderate condition and suffering from hypothermia.

Senior MDA medic Mohammed Gadir said, "in a field adjacent to a factory we saw an elderly man lying in a water puddle, we rescued him as he was conscious and suffering from hypothermia."

"We put him in the emergency medical vehicle and while evacuating him to the hospital we gave him medical treatment for hypothermia which he suffered from, which raised his temperature that initially was measured as being very low."

Gadir said "laborers who work at the site said they found him on their way to work."
