Members of the Likud will make their decision on who will head the Central Committee group. This is a very powerful position in the ruling party. The previous head was Danny Danon, now Israel's ambassador to the UN.

The main candidates for the position are Welfare Minister Haim Katz, who is supported by a number of ministers; David (Dudi) Amsalem, the head of the Internal Committee who also has the support of numerous ministers and MKs; and Tzachi Hanegbi, the coalition head and head of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee who is largely backed by party activists.

The 3,750 active members will be able to vote in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Be'er Sheva, Haifa, and Tiberias. The stations opened at 10:00 am and will remain active until 10:00 pm. Afterwards the votes will be counted in Tel Aviv and the results published.

Central Committee members will also vote on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's proposal to advance the party's primaries.

Many in the Likud believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu has not commented on the Central Committee campaign beacuse he wants to easily pass his motion without a fight from any of today's candidates.
