Defense Ministry security guards at the Kerem Shalom border crossing thwarted an attempt Wednesday to smuggle a motorcycle, which was hidden inside a refrigerator, into Gaza.

As part of security checks carried out on all goods being transferred from Israel into Gaza, Kerem Shalom Border guards examined a Gaza-bound Israeli truck containing old electrical equipment.

During the search, the dismantled parts of a Sanyang motorcycle were discovered inside one of the refrigerators.

Motorcycles are banned from Gaza, after it was revealed that terrorists inside the coastal enclave have used motorcycles while carrying out various illegal activities and terror attacks.

The terror group Hamas, which controls Gaza, was also found to have used motorcycles during last summer's Operation Protective Edge.

Since the start of 2015, border guards have foiled 250 smuggling attempts from Israel into Gaza.
