There were fewer security incidents in June, but they were more serious, the Israel Security Agency (ISA or Shin Bet) said Thursday.

In its monthly report of security incidents throughout Israel, the organization said there were 123 incidents in June, 29 fewer than a month earlier. With that, the number was higher than in March and April, the report said.

Most of that reduction was in Judea and Samaria, the report found.

Despite the sentiment among many residents of the region that the security situation was heating up, the opposite is the case, the Shin Bet declared. Overall there were 69 such incidents in June, as compared to 91 in May.

There were also fewer incidents in Jerusalem in June – only 51, as compared to 60.

With that, the incidents in June were more serious, the Shin Bet noted. Two Israelis were killed in terror attacks - Danny Gonen and Malachi Rosenfeld - as compared to two who were killed in the previous three months.

On Thursday, the Knesset's Constitution, Law and Justice Committee authorized a change to a law that would significantly increase the punishment for stone throwing.

Under the change, those who throw rocks at people would be sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison, while who throw rocks at buses would receive ten years, without regard for the circumstances of their action.

Proponents hope the bill will be brought to a Knesset vote before the summer session ends next week.
